OCR document processing
A scanned PDF is often just a picture of text. OCR turns those images into searchable text — the first step to finding, classifying or using the content.
Describe my document problem Upload requirements
The outcome
Scanned documents you can search by their contents, ready for indexing, classification or analysis.
Common situations
- Archives of scanned PDFs with no text layer
- Faxes and image files
- Shared drives full of scans named 'scan0001.pdf'
- Preparing documents for search or AI
The approach
- Repository review. How many files, which formats, what quality.
- Text recognition. OCR applied with language and layout settings.
- Quality checks. Low-confidence pages flagged for attention.
- Metadata. Titles, dates and types added so files are findable.
- Search. Full-text and field search across the collection.
Is this the right starting point?
It probably is if:
- Your PDFs are scans, not born-digital files
- Search returns nothing for words you can see on the page
- You plan to classify or analyze the content later
Not sure? Describe what is happening — the assessment works out which problem you actually have.
What the free assessment gives you
- What we understood — the facts you stated, labelled as confirmed, separate from anything inferred.
- The document problem — which of the common document problems you actually have, so you don't buy for the wrong one.
- Recommended approach and likely phases — only the capabilities your situation needs.
- What pricing needs — the next input required, or a status showing the provider will prepare pricing.
- Missing information — what would sharpen the result, asked one question at a time.
Nothing is stored until you create an account and choose to save. Uploaded files stay private.
Questions buyers ask
How do we know if our PDFs need OCR?
Open one and try to select or search a word. If you can't, the page is an image and needs OCR.
Does OCR work on handwriting?
Handwriting is much harder than print and results vary. Mention it so it can be scoped honestly.
Will OCR fix poor scans?
It helps less than you'd hope. Very poor images may need rescanning — the assessment asks about quality.
